DESIRING CHRIST-LIKE MOTIVATION!“
51And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. [Luke 24:51-53]
“And you shall receive power, after the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” [Acts 1:8]“
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear [veneration] came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45And sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all men, as every man had need. 46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their food with gladness and sincerity of heart, 47Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as were being saved.” [Acts 2:42-47]. [Further reference Acts 4:32-37/5:42]
Guilt, fear, anxiety, uncertainty, doubt, depression, disobedience, disease, death, oppression, perversion, vain glory and attention seeking … These are not of God but are designed by the enemy to cause despondency and sway God’s people from fellowship with Him and one another! May we not miss divine encounters or the hour of our visitation from these! Christianity is about witnessing with power, loving with passion and serving with dedication. We need the kind of attention that motivates faith, as nations rage, making people to imagine vain things. Faith can move mountains, just as doubt can create them! The Bible to some, is a story of a cosmic breakdown and a cosmic rescue, reduced to the dimensions of a tiny stage, so that our limited minds can only comprehend the “acts-of-God” as scenarios are played out daily in our lives causing shifts, from generation to generation. But then again, calamities and the fallen nature of man have a way of exposing human weaknesses and vulnerabilities in their belief systems and where exactly our motivation lies.
Governments have no business sustaining the livelihoods of “servants of God” or pampering them on stipends and incentives. That would obviously pose serious gaps in doctrinal foundations because these serve different kingdoms. If anything, legitimate [genuine] servants of God are known to unsettle governments and religious status quo, with thought provoking challenges that cause them sleepless nights as they raise moral issues. But then again, governments are composed of tax-compliant Christian faithful as a paradox in service delivery. So therefore, whether places of worship are open or closed, the Kingdom [Government] of Heaven is never on lockdown. Faced with imminent crisis to the point of death, Jesus, our perfect example and pattern does not turn to Caesar or Pontius Pilate for help. He does not plead nor negotiate with the system because He knew his position and understood His mission. That would have made vain the finished work of the Cross and its power over everything! Herod, Caesar and Pontius Pilate are long dead and rendered irrelevant in historical oblivion as Jesus reigns and lives on in our hearts! There is hardly a second goes by without the name of JESUS being mentioned or receiving attention somewhere on planet earth, compared to all other names!
Apostle Paul reinforces a strong statement of faith in Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” The very “acts” in the gospels narratives is about what God continues to do in straightening and strengthening our twisted nature, by Himself becoming man and, therefore, making it possible for ALL to renew our lives in him, by the limitless power of the indwelling Holy Spirit! The Kingdom of God came down as foretold prophetically “with power” and is vested with/in the believer, whereby we are partakers of it through Christ, if we have accepted, believed, received and embraced him through salvation. Christians, therefore, are no longer a collection of timid, fearful, hopeless mortals, but people who are conscious of a new exaltation of the Holy Spirit that gives them legitimacy following Christ’s ascension to the throne and alive to exercising power [on earth as in heaven] and dominion in a sound mind [2 Timothy 1:7].
How else can we give testimony of a Living God and draw attention to Him? Since the early church, the atmosphere of worship is no longer Palestinian but imperial. Neither is it confined to pilgrimage to Israel or consisting in a handful Jews in Jerusalem, but that the Christian church worldwide is now powerfully thrusting spearheads into every fabric and corner of the planet and has become a world-wide missionary movement that no earthly government can stop or muzzle, because her mouthpiece is no longer one or twelve disciples but gradually, a multiplicity of witnesses sprawling continents, with daily additions to the fold.
How can such a movement be weak? History bears witness and attests to a fundamental fact that since Saul of Tarsus, the more church is persecuted, the more it multiplies! Conscious of this reality, the church in Kenya is not in any way under persecution nor has prayer life been abolished. Christians are encouraged to use every opportunity in worshiping, whether by the roadside, under tree sheds, in homesteads or marketplaces, on fields and farms. The Spirit of God is not confined in statements and decrees, church programs, religious doctrines or particular calendars of worship. Whether we are 5, 10, 100 or 1000; whether we are 13 years, 20 years, 38 years, 47 years, 58 years or centenarians, we have power to praise God as we are, wherever we are, sunrise to sunset, to occasion joyfulness as we proclaim the Kingdom of God on earth and as we manifest that power with boldness as the early church did in Acts 4:29-31. Church community concept may not be feasible in our dispensation as it was in the early church but the Holy Spirit is still dispensing power regardless of circumstances, changed environment or technological advancement. Wherever two or three are gathered in His name, there the Spirit of God dwells.
It could be believers have become too comfortable and too familiar with God we needed such a Covid-19 disruption to get back to our senses! The church everywhere including Kenya shall outlive any governments and is ultimately the inevitable successor of a chosen people of God, the ecclesia! If, therefore, God called and ordained us, then we know it and we are witnesses to it, motivated in word and deed to do His will, subject to such conviction. Moreover, the manifestation of such call/ordination would leave no doubt because those called are distinguished and known by their fruits and fruitfulness [Matthew 7:16] as the salt and light of the world!“ 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father;) full of grace and truth.” [John 1:12-14]
A Christ-like motivation is living cognizant of the fact that:
- Any person who reveres God and seeks to do His will is connected to the power source, Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit [Mark 16:16-18; Luke 24:45-47; Acts 1:8/10:38];
- Every believer is on a mission and lives for that mission in season and out of season as an ambassador and a co-worker in the Kingdom of God here on earth [Ephesians 2:10];
- The body of Christ is one in the Holy Spirit and diversity of gifts, gracing believers impartially irrespective of age, color, tribe, or geographical locations [Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 12:12-31]. Nothing is restrained or impossible within the fellowship of believers;
- Truth of the gospel or gospel truth has and must be presented as it is regardless of how people feel about it. God is not interested in our feelings but in our obedience to Him.Stephen did not mince words as he correctly reminded his murderers of their ancestors’ insolence that led to rejection of God’s appointed messengers, all the way from Joseph, Moses, and Prophets to Jesus. Even at the point of death his motivation was only the glory of heaven as it was revealed to him [Acts 7:36]. Today he can be dismissed by some as having lacked wisdom, yet church today is founded by the price such martyrs paid!
If indeed God chose us, if indeed He ordained us and separated us to Himself to do His will, we owe no one else allegiance but the Living God alone, to whom all glory, honor, and majesty is due, forever and ever:
AMEN! That, is our motivation! Shalom! Shalom!
Co-worker in Christ,
